It’s the festive season, which means Christmas carols are inescapable, whether you’re in a supermarket, shop or pub. One such classic that has even inspired its own game is Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ – a whimsical tune about love, festivities and heartbreak.
The song is so popular that every December, scores of people play ‘Whamageddon’, a game where the aim is to avoid hearing the song in public for as long as possible.
Now, thanks to luxury hotel The Capra, fans can visit the very chalet where the video was filmed 40 years ago. Nestled against the snowy peaks of Switzerland’s Valais region, the village of Saas-Fee, where ‘Last Christmas’ was shot, remains largely unchanged.
So, visitors this year can expect a hefty dose of 80s nostalgia along with fun pop-ups and events, as local businesses join in to celebrate the anniversary. As part of a three-night package marking the song’s 40th anniversary, two guests can enjoy a Wham! Cocktail, daily breakfast, and a Wham! Walk, reports th e Express.
After a day of enjoying the snowy scenery, guests can head to the hotel’s wine cellar for nostalgia nights, where they’ll be serving up 80s-inspired culinary classics like prawn cocktails and, naturally, trifle.
Guests arriving after December 21 will be treated to a vibrant 80s Wham!party in the village, where they can dance the night away. A Wham! exhibition at the Saas Museum.
Capra’s Last Christmas offer is available between December 1 and January 31, with prices starting at CHF 1,170 (around £1,043) for three nights based on double occupancy. To book, email reservation@capra.ch with the subject line “Whamtastic”.
