Eggs can be made in so many ways, but arguably the hardest type to master is a fried egg.
Without drowning your pan in butter, sloshing in oil, or owning a non-stick pan that actually does its job, frying an egg to perfection can seem like an unattainable feat.
If you’ve ever attempted to fry an egg in a pan without any fat, you’ll know the frustration of being glued to the sink for ages, scrubbing away and going through washing-up liquid like there’s no tomorrow. But what if there was a way to whip up a fried egg without using anything at all – not even a pan?
To cook eggs without a pan or a hob, all you need are eggs, two paper plates and a microwave. Simply crack a maximum of three eggs onto one plate, cover with the other, and pop them in the microwave. In just a minute and a half on an 800-1000W setting, you’ll have perfectly cooked fried eggs and zero clean-up woes.
Rose Reisman shared this nifty trick with her followers in a snappy 29-second video, saying: “Okay so you don’t want to use a skillet in the morning for some nice fried eggs? No problem.” Rose suggests ditching the pan in favour of a couple of paper plates and a microwave to nail those fried eggs in mere moments.
For every egg you pop into the microwave using this nifty hack, just add an extra 30 seconds to ensure the whites are cooked through and firm. Rose was chuffed with the results, saying they “look great” and were “loose to the way [she] really likes them.”
You can tweak the hack to suit your taste; a bit more time in the microwave will firm up those whites even more. The chef’s main goal with this trick is to “keep the kitchen really clean”, which means fewer dishes to wash up afterwards. Followers and commenters were wowed by Rose’s clever technique, with one fan exclaiming: “It works! I love it!”
Rose also earned kudos for keeping things healthy by avoiding any oil or grease, prompting another to comment: “Delicious.”
