Melissa McCabe, 16, is a teenage mom who fell pregnant when she was just 14 years old. She once went viral with a video showing her taking her small son to prom. Melissa struggled with criticism from other people and faced prejudice from her fellow pupils and even teachers. But she proved everyone wrong and finished her full-time study while looking after her child, and now she’s got her brilliant exam results and many plans for the future.
Melissa McCabe fell pregnant when she was just 14 and gave birth to a son, Arthur, in November 2020.
Speaking about that time, the girl says, ’When I first realized I was pregnant, I was worried my only choice would be to drop out of school to care for Arthur. I decided to continue with education, and I’m so happy I did.”
The young mom continued her education despite all the criticism she got.
Melissa faced a lot of harsh comments and criticism as a young mom, but she persistently went on with her education and achieved top results despite all the naysayers.
She says, “I once had a teacher tell me I was never going to make it, and that was before I had Arthur, so to prove them wrong has felt amazing!”
Melissa also commented on her motivation, saying, “’I’ve had adults make snide comments at me like it’s their taxes paying for my son, and that I’m not fit to be a mum. I’ve stayed in education to provide for my son and to make a life for the both of us, and I receive very little benefits.”
Melissa now wants to shake the stereotype that young and single parents like her face every day.
She says, “I’m really proud of myself and my results. There will always be a little voice nagging in my head that I could’ve done better, but I’ve worked so hard to get to this point. As a teen mum, there are a lot of preconceived stereotypes that come along with the title.”
Melissa recalls the moments of her journey, saying, “After I took Arthur to prom, my story just blew up on there, and I’ve had people messaging me to say how gorgeous he looks and how great a mum I am. It’s been a wild journey, but I’m super excited to go to college and see what the future has in store for us.”
Here’s yet another story about a teen mom who has 3 kids from different fathers and says her children are her blessing despite all life difficulties.
