Many people know that Hollywood stars, especially women, face a lot of pressure to look good as they age. We often hear about the newest beauty treatments and routines that celebrities use to maintain their youthful appearance.
However, some choose to accept their natural looks and age with grace. Justine Bateman is one of those stars; she recently shared her choice to avoid cosmetic procedures, even with all the pressure from society.
Justine Bateman is a talented actress, director, and writer who became famous for her role as Mallory in the popular 1980s TV show Family Ties when she was just a teenager. She also appeared in the series Men Behaving Badly and had guest roles in shows like Desperate Housewives and Still Standing. Fun fact: she is the older sister of actor Jason Bateman.
“I just don’t give a s—,” she said in an interview with 60 Minutes Australia. “I think I look rad. I think my face represents who I am. I like it.”
I think I would want to get rid of all the power I have now because I really enjoy being a different person than I was at 20. When I look in the mirror, I like seeing proof of that change.
Justine Bateman is 57 years old, and like many actresses her age, she has been pushed to consider plastic surgery. However, she has chosen to embrace her age without any cosmetic procedures.
Bateman mentioned that since she turned 40, she has received hurtful comments about her appearance. Some people even compared her naturally aging face to a “sea hag” and a “meth addict.” She felt the pressure to get cosmetic surgery or Botox.
“I thought my face looked fine,” she told People in 2021
“And then because of some of the fears I had, unrelated to my face, I decided to make them right and me wrong… I became really ashamed of my face, ridiculously so.”
Bateman eventually chose to overlook the negative comments about her appearance and accept the process of aging naturally. She stated, “Changing your face won’t make your fears disappear.”
“If you get plastic surgery, you’ll end up looking different. Sure, you’ll have that new look, but you still haven’t faced the real issue behind your fear. That fear will still be there… I believe that getting a lot of plastic surgery is just trying to please others.”
The actress, who talked about this topic in her book Face: One Square Foot of Skin, expressed that she feels “sad” for women who focus too much on cosmetic surgeries. She wishes they would appreciate their natural beauty instead.
“I feel sad that they’re not simply enjoying life,” she shared with 60 Minutes. “It makes me sad that they’re so caught up in the idea of needing to change their appearance before they can do anything else in life.”
We believe Justine Bateman is really beautiful! It’s important that no one feels like they have to change their appearance. We’re grateful to Justine Bateman for inspiring more women to embrace aging naturally.
