The parent company of GTA 6 developer Rockstar, Take-Two Interactive, has issued a huge update on Grand Theft Auto VI

The parent company of GTA 6 creator Rockstar, Take-Two Interactive, has confirmed a huge update concerning the release of the game.

It comes after months of speculation that Grand Theft Auto fans could expect a fabled second trailer for the new game in the run up to Christmas 2024.

With the first and only trailer for GTA 6 released back in December 2023, it marked 12 months since the huge drop.

But Christmas came and went, with no update on the new game that’s set to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Attention then turned to the next company update from Take-Two, which is taking place at this very moment.

Called an earnings report, they are financial updates that Take-Two gives. During these, it gives updates on some of its biggest financial products such as GTA 6 or Red Dead Redemption 2.

And the latest update is neither good or bad news for impatient GTA fans as, you guessed it, the game is still on course for a rather vague Autumn 2025 release.

So there you have it GTA fans – while the release date hasn’t technically been pushed back we’re yet to get a specific day locked into the diary, which doesn’t rule out a potential delay at some point in the future. Which I guess is neither good or bad news.

“Looking ahead, this calendar year is shaping up to be one of the strongest ever for Take-Two,” official documents said of the company’s release schedule (via The Independent).

“We plan to launch Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on February 11, Mafia: The Old Country in the Summer, GTA 6 in the Fall, and Borderlands 4.”

Speaking about the vague timeframe in an interview with IGN ahead of the earnings call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged that fans may be disappointed with the vague schedule.

“Look, there’s always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things. So we feel really good about it,” he said.

“I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally. We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. Our whole organisation is super excited.”

Fans had, of course, been speculating what the update would mean ahead of time, with some praying it wasn’t a delay.

Others wanted a second trailer or simply just to be told 2025 was still happening. Anything but a delay was the message, essentially.

On the importance of the earnings call for GTA 6 but also any future Rockstar game, the verified and popular GTA 6 Countdown account on X (formerly Twitter) explained: ‘It’s the first earnings call of the year the game is officially scheduled to launch in.

“Rockstar only confirms an exact release date when they’re 100 percent certain about it. A general timeframe like ‘Fall 2025’ would mean they’re still not confident, which leaves room for a possible a delay.

“GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 release dates were both confirmed before February’s earnings call.”
