The scene in Trainwreck caused some issues for Cena
When it comes to filming sex scenes in movies, you’d imagine it’s one of the more awkward aspects of the job for the spouses of actors.
While Sterling K Brown has received praise recently for his candid response to finding out his wife was filming one with her celebrity crush, not everyone can be so chill.
One thing that will definitely guarantee your partner being less than chill is to not tell them about it – unfortunately that is exactly what John Cena did for a sex scene with Amy Schumer.
The actor once admitted that he did not tell his one-time fiancée, fellow WWE legend Nikki Bella.
At the time she was his girlfriend, but the pair went on to become engaged after he proposed on TV in 2017 – only to breaking up in 2018.
The sex scene was for the 2015 film Trainwreck, a scene in which Schumer once claimed he was ‘inside her’.
Cena explained in an interview with Conan that he hadn’t expected to get the role, playing Schumer’s character’s boyfriend Steven.
He said: “Honestly I didn’t think I’d get the part. I kept putting it off not telling Nicole and not having the discussion of, ‘Hey there may be some graphic scenes.’
“So I got it and I couldn’t say no, so I kind of walked in one day and was like, ‘Hey, I’m kind of just doing this.’ And that was the wrong approach.”
“She has such beautiful brown eyes and they glowed with red hellfire.”
He finally said: “She has such a great smile but she turned into like the alien and the predator at once.”
Bella went on to speak about it later, joking that it prevented her being able to have her own fun.
She said: “Imagine watching your man do a sex scene and have the whole world see his big butt. You know, you get visuals.
“I swear, I couldn’t masturbate [in like] forever because I just think of the sex scene.”
Whilst unclear whether he was joking or not, the eventual sex scene led Schumer to joke he was ‘inside her’, saying she couldn’t keep a straight face ‘because he was actually inside me’.
Bill Hader, Schumer and Cena’s co-star in the film, added: “Wrestlers, they’re not faking. When they’re wrestlers they don’t fake,’ to which Schumer responded: “It’s real.”
The wrestler revealed later in a chat with the Howard Stern Show that he had been wearing a ‘modesty sock’ during the filming of the scene.
He went on to joke: “That scene started with a camera operator, focus puller and a boom guy…by the end of the scene, they had catering set up in there, everybody was in there.
“But I think the more comfortable you can be with it, the more you lose yourself in the thing.”
