People are calling Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s Oscar opening the “best Oscars performance ever,” and it’s hard to disagree!

The biggest night of the year for Hollywood is underway, and the A-listers of the industry are all seated inside the Dolby Theatre in LA.

There have been a host of nominees this year that all deserve to bag some awards, but one of those movies seems to stand out from the rest.

Wicked took the world by storm when it was released, and even those who are huge fans of the stage musical seemed to adore the movie.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were perfectly cast in their roles as they crushed it as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively.

This year, the Oscars decided to do without performances of the Best Song nominees, and fans were devastated that they might miss out on seeing the biggest songs of the year.

Luckily for us, Grande and Erivo opened the show with hit songs from The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, and it went down very well.

Ariana opened in a ruby red dress with the classic song ‘Over The Rainbow’ and was soon joined by Erivo, stunning in an all white outfit.

The pair then gave us a snippet from the climax of Wicked, as they both belted out Defying Gravity.

Erivo, naturally, absolutely nailed that final note, and the audience was quickly on their feet to give her a standing ovation.

It wasn’t just those in the room who loved it, but the internet has lapped it up as well.

One person wrote on X: “BEST #OSCARS PERFORMANCE EVER.”

A second added: “Best performance the oscars ever saw and ever will see mark my words #Oscars.”

A third said: “This was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, best live performance at the #Oscars since the 90s.”

“That was the best Oscars opening/performance/everything of our lifetime I am in tears,” tweeted a fourth.

Erivo and Grande will both be hoping to go home with an award this evening, as they’ve been nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.

Wicked is also nominated for Best Picture, and fans across the world will be hoping that the magic of Oz will be enough to bag the coveted prizes.
