With President Donald Trump at Super Bowl LIX, Kendrick Lamar fans think the rapper aimed his show at the POTUS himself

Certain viewers of the Super Bowl halftime show think Kendrick Lamar’s performance had a huge dig at Donald Trump.

Kendrick took to the centre of the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans in a hugely anticipated show on Sunday (9 February) halfway through the huge NFL matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

With an incredibly special guest in the form of Samuel L. Jackson dressed up as American statesman Uncle Sam, viewers were hooked as they waited to see if, and when, the Compton rapper would perform ‘Not Like Us’.

Fresh off of winning five Grammys for the song, it is the height of his ongoing beef against Drake and, to many, the decisive blow in who has won the feud. For now, anyway.

Kendrick performed the song with the crowd roaring when the beat dropped and very much sang the ‘a minor’ line alongside the 37-year-old himself.

But it was the clever sketches with Jackson that saw viewers thinking Kendrick was thinking far beyond a 15 minute slot to perform his greatest hits.

One of the interludes from Jackson saw him telling Kendrick that ‘he’s too ghetto’ and after changing tact for the next number, said: “Yes! American wants slow chill music.”

That was before ‘Not Like Us’ graced our ears and Kendrick embraced his west coast hip-hop roots.

One person watching Kendrick’s show took to social media saying: “Samuel L Jackson as Uncle Sam – the personification of American – telling Kendrick his performance is ‘too ghetto’.

“And then it cutting to Kendrick’s all-black backup dancers arranged as the American flag… all while That Man is in attendance?

“Kendrick I was not familiar with your game.”

It comes as President Trump ordered all US government staff working on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) schemes be put on immediate paid administrative leave.

The move has faced fierce opposition saying it will undo decades of giving people of all backgrounds equal footing in the USA.

“I wish I could have been a fly on the wall in Trump Super Bowl suite when he saw an American flag made of black people open up to Samuel L Jackson as Uncle Sam introducing Kendrick Lamar,” another wrote.

“They gonna be screaming DEI all week.”

A third said: “All the Samuel L Jackson bits were telling him, ‘you’re too ghetto’ then, ‘yes! America wants slow chill music’. It was Uncle Sam trying to silence the culture.”

There is obviously no way to know for sure if Kendrick meant what some of his fans are saying. But as a man who creates art that has more than face value, he likely doesn’t do things by accident.
