Sarah Shahi’s dog Star was “taken” by a coyote, the Paradise actress shared on Thursday, April 3.
Shahi, 45, recounted the gut-wrenching story via her Instagram Stories, explaining that she also had to tell her kids about the tragic incident.
“I am an animal lover,” she wrote. “I give my dogs comfort before I give myself any. Today, I heard my little girl, Star, get taken by a coyote.”
She added, “This is really f***ing hard. And breaking it to my kids is awful.”
On the next slide, Shahi included a plea for others to look out for Star, just in case the pup survived.
“If for any reason, you come across this dog, let me know,” she wrote over a photo of Star. “I know I’m delusional. But when your kids ask you to ask Instagram, you do. My heart is in pieces.”
Star, along with puppies Hershey and Cranberry, were Christmas gifts to her kids.
“It was the Christmas I momentarily went insane,” Shahi recalled in a 2023 story for Natural Diamonds. “I was the Oprah of dogs. ‘And you get a dog! And you get a dog!’ But the smiles on their faces were worth it.”
Shahi and her ex-husband, Steve Howey, share son William, 15, and twins Violet and Knox, 10. They divorced in 2021 after 11 years of marriage.
“From the time that our first child was born, our relationship suffered and it was hard to get back on track,” she said on a 2023 episode of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast. “We were together for a very long time. We were together for 18 years. That’s not a failure. That was a long time. But the last 10 years we really did struggle.”
She added that having William changed the dynamic between her and Howey, 47.
“Any flaws you have in the relationship before you have kids, if you don’t settle those things — that was my experience of, ‘It gets worse,’” she explained. “It only gets worse. You have less time for each other, you have less patience, you have less desire because you’re just so damn tired.”
Shahi confirmed in 2021 that she is now dating her Sex/Life costar Adam Demos.
“We met each other and it was not instant,” she explained. “It was over time, it was getting to know him as a person and seeing how aligned our values were. … I also really respected how he talked about his mom and how he talked about women.”
