Katy Perry went to space, and Kesha went to Wendy’s.
After the “Firework” singer, 40, briefly went to space as part of Blue Origin’s first all-female space mission on April 14, fast food chain Wendy’s jokingly asked to “send her back” in a post shared to X. Hours later, Kesha, 38, shared a photo of herself smiling as she sipped from a Wendy’s cup.
Why is this all related? Perry worked with producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald on her latest album 143, released earlier this year, marking their first time releasing music together since Kesha sued him based on accusations of “physical, sexual, verbal and emotional abuse over a 10-year period” in 2014. [He later countersued for defamation, and both parties reached a settlement in 2023.]
Perry and Kesha were once friends and both collaborated with Gottwald on many of their early hits. The “Teenage Dream” artist notably did not work with him on Witness or Smile, the two albums released in the midst of his legal battle with Kesha.
Amid rumors Perry was back in the studio with Gottwald, Kesha took to X in June 2024 and simply wrote, “lol.” One month after the release of 143 lead single “Woman’s World,” produced by Gottwald, in July 2024, Kesha wore an “LOL” t-shirt for a performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
In an interview on Call Her Daddy to promote 143, Perry spoke about reuniting with Gottwald. “I understand that [working with him] started a lot of conversations, and he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. But the reality is, it comes from me,” she said.
Once Wendy’s posted about wanting to send Perry back to space following the Blue Origin mission, Kesha seemingly took a trip to one of the fast food chain’s locations.
In addition to Perry, the Blue Origin mission saw journalist Gayle King, philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut and bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn take off in a New Shepard rocket from West Texas for a flight lasting about 10 minutes.
The trip has since garnered criticism from celebrities including Olivia Munn and Olivia Wilde. In response to some of the backlash, King told PEOPLE that in her eyes, “anybody that’s criticizing it doesn’t really understand what is happening here.”

“We can all speak to the response we’re getting from young women from young girls about what this represents,” added King.
Sánchez, the fiancée of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, then noted, “I get really fired up.”
“I would love to have them come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees that don’t just work here but they put their heart and soul into this vehicle,” said Sánchez. “They love their work and they love the mission and it’s a big deal for them.”
“So when we hear comments like that, I just say, ‘Trust me. Come with me. I’ll show you what this is about, and it’s, it’s really eye-opening,’ ” she continued.
While on the rocket, Perry entertained her fellow crew members by singing a few bars of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” which King called the “best part” of the short flight.
Perry’s daughter Daisy and fiancé Orlando Bloom watched the flight from the launch area. Following her safe return to Earth, Perry knelt and kissed the ground.
