Jon Stewart was his usual enthusiastic self when blasting Elon Musk’s DOGE cuts and the state of the pharmaceutical industry — but, this time, his rant ended with a nasty injury.
Delivering a usual passionate and blistering segment on The Daily Show, Stewart took aim at Elon Musk, government inefficiency, and corporate greed.
It all culminated in a dramatic moment where the host cut his hand open on a smashed porcelain “World’s Most Dad” mug.
“I’ll be going to the hospital soon,” Stewart quipped, hiding his bleeding fingers under the desk.
Check out the moment below:
The intense moment showed his frustration over Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a temporary contracted organization responsible for sweeping government budget cuts and the premature firing of federal employees.
Mocking the logic behind the firings, Stewart sarcastically said: “Yeah! F*** you, guy who tests water for appropriate levels of fecal matter! What are we talking about?”
He also took a jab at Musk, likening him to “the Nick Cannon of white people” due to his many children with different women.
The segment also targeted President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that millions of deceased individuals are fraudulently collecting Social Security benefits.
Disputing the claim, Stewart fired back: “We’re not paying millions and millions of dead people Social Security money. And even if there was a 200-year-old man walking around, he wouldn’t need Social Security, he’d still be in Congress.”
Stewart also criticized DOGE’s approach to budget cuts, arguing that corporate giants – not federal employees – should be the real targets of spending reductions.
He pointed to pharmaceutical companies and other major corporations as the true beneficiaries of government mismanagement, calling U.S. negotiations with them “the worst Shark Tank deal in f***ing history.”
“Capitalism is, by definition, exploitative. It’s how it operates. That’s fine,” Stewart stated. “But then government’s role should be to ease the negative effects on Americans of that exploitation, not subsidize that treachery with our money. We’re getting f***ed at a Diddy party, and they’re making us buy the baby oil.”
Stewart then called for a shift in focus toward corporations such as Walmart and McDonald’s, which earn billions in taxpayer-subsidized profits while many of their employees rely on public assistance.
“We are subsidizing the very system that makes workers’ lives harder in the first place, all in the name of freedom and liberty. But the greatest restriction of freedom in this country isn’t DEI and pronoun pressure, it’s f***ing poverty and struggle,” he said.
Despite the injury he sustained earlier in the segment, Stewart maintained his composure, briefly inspecting his bandaged hand as the audience gasped at the sight of blood dripping from his fingers. “It’s fine!” he laughed.
As the show wrapped, Stewart made a final attempt at brainstorming a new slogan for modern America, jokingly landing on “MANGIONE” – a reference to alleged shooter Luigi Mangione – before quickly backtracking.
“Make America Not Governed In Obviously Negative – oh! Abort, abort, abort, I’m kidding, no vigilantes, but do something,” he concluded.
