This globally acclaimed artist and fashion designer experienced the loss of his mother and made a heartfelt promise to keep her memory alive.

In the fashion industry, numerous vibrant personalities stand out, but few are as flamboyant as Harald Glööckler. Although his name may not be familiar to everyone, his distinctive appearance—often accentuated with bold makeup and dramatic style—frequently graces the pages of tabloids.
However, the path to fame and fortune has not been easy for Harald Glööckler; his success has been forged through determination and a difficult upbringing.
She was once a favorite of millions thanks to her unusual appearance, but has changed dramatically due to plastic surgery.

Every child deserves a nurturing and secure environment, but Harald Glööckler’s experience growing up in southern Germany was far from ideal. His father was both abusive and an alcoholic, a combination that left a lasting impact on his early years.
“A zombie movie is more beautiful than my childhood,” he shared with Bild in 2009.
As if enduring an abusive father wasn’t enough, young Harald faced the devastating loss of his mother under tragic circumstances. At just 13, he lost her after a mysterious fall down the stairs, which was deemed an accident by authorities.
However, Harald believes there is more to the story. “When I was 13, I watched my father kill my mother,” he disclosed, alleging that his father pushed her down the stairs. “That day marked the end of my childhood.”
From that point forward, Harald never uttered a word to his father again— not a single word— until his father passed away 13 years later, in 1992.
Sadly, when he was just six years old, Harald was also sexually abused by a family friend during a trip. Due to the instability in his home life, he kept this trauma to himself.
“It took me many years to realize that it wasn’t my fault,” he shared.
Despite facing significant challenges in his early years, Harald ultimately found a way to transform his pain into something constructive. Had it not been for his father’s abusive behavior, he might not have become one of the most celebrated designers in the world.
Seeing his mother endure suffering at the hands of his father fueled his resolve to advocate for women in every possible way.
“When I was six, I made a promise to myself that I would never want to see a woman cry again. My goal was to make every woman feel beautiful.”
He began his career as an apprentice before moving on to a role as a salesperson at a fashion house. With time, he built up the experience and confidence necessary to establish his own store.
In 1987, at just 22 years old, Harald opened his first boutique, Jeans Garden, located on one of Stuttgart’s busiest streets. He managed the store with his partner and manager, Dieter Schroth, who was a haberdasher.
Three years later, Glööckler launched his most renowned clothing line, Pompöös. His rise to fame was fueled by high-profile clients such as Gina Lollobrigida, Brigitte Nielsen, and Chaka Khan.
Since the inception of his boutique, Glööckler has emerged as a significant figure in the fashion industry. Renowned for his flamboyant designs and appearances on teleshopping, he creates a variety of products—including fashion items, cosmetics, and bags—that are available in over 80 countries.
He is primarily known in Germany, but he has also gained considerable recognition worldwide. Currently, he creates and sells his artwork and has even launched his own line of jewelry. In recent years, he has served as a permanent judge on Germany’s Let’s Dance. Additionally, he has explored music and appeared in the documentary titled Harald Glööckler: Prince of Fashion.
“My success stems from my authenticity — people appreciate that. Ultimately, I’m also a savvy businessman,” Glööckler shared during Fashion Week.
Harald Glööckler and his partner, Dieter Schroth, have been together for more than 30 years. They formalized their relationship with a registered partnership in 2015. Before their romance, Dieter was married and had two daughters, who later lived with Glööckler and Schroth, and they now enjoy grandchildren together.
The couple describes their life as quite traditional, filled with gatherings with friends, coffee dates, and shared meals. Although Dieter has encountered some health challenges over the years, Harald has consistently been there to support him.
“I take care of everything at home — from cooking and shopping to looking after the dog,” Glööckler mentioned to Bild.
Glööckler has generally enjoyed good health, with the exception of a serious episode in 2018 when he experienced anaphylactic shock. This condition can arise from insect stings, medications, or specific foods. He was quickly taken to the hospital for urgent treatment.
“My face kept swelling, and I was struggling to breathe. I panicked and had to go to the hospital,” Glööckler recounted to Bild.
While it’s clear he has an allergy, neither he nor his medical team has pinpointed the cause. Thankfully, he was released from the hospital soon after and was in high spirits when he spoke to the press, joking, “I’ve always wanted higher cheekbones, but not like this!”
Plastic Surgery
At 65, Harald Glööckler clearly embraces cosmetic enhancements to maintain a youthful appearance. The German designer is candid about having undergone several procedures to achieve his desired facial shape.
“Plastic surgery isn’t inherently good or bad; it’s essential,” he shared with Fashion Weekly.
Some critics have harshly judged Harald Glööckler for his flamboyant look. His extravagant use of glitter, bold accessories, and signature crown design have not always garnered positive feedback. Nevertheless, Glööckler remains steadfast in his unique style, unapologetically embracing his individuality.
Someone mentioned that I resemble the child of Liza Minnelli and David Gest. Ultimately, what matters is not what people say about you online; what truly counts is being recognized. The only real downside is being dull, he remarks.
$660,000 on cosmetic enhancements
Harald Glööckler spares no cost when it comes to perfecting his appearance. Recently, he had breast surgery to improve his upper body contour.
In a conversation with RTL, the designer revealed that he has spent $660,000 on various cosmetic treatments.
“Getting older is a burden. I get injections and visit the hairdresser regularly. It’s all part of investing in my brand,” says the 59-year-old.
In June, Harald Glööckler surprised many of his Instagram followers by sharing a video featuring multiple pink cannulas inserted into his cheeks.
“This isn’t some trendy facial accessory; it’s a thread lift,” Glööckler clarifies in the video.
As expected, the 59-year-old received criticism, with several followers voicing their worries about the extensive injections and cosmetic treatments.
