Cheryl Tiegs, recognized as one of the pioneering supermodels in America, became a cultural sensation 46 years ago with her iconic pink bikini poster.

Throughout the years, she has appeared on the covers of prominent magazines like Sports Illustrated, Vogue, and Time. Beyond her modeling success, she has also become a passionate advocate for environmental issues and a supporter of health and wellness.

At 77, Tiegs began her modeling journey after a friend pointed out her striking appearance. She initially took on small fashion shows for little pay, but her career took off at the age of 17 when she was featured in Glamour magazine, catapulting her to international stardom.

From that moment, her career soared, leading to numerous features in Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions, Time, and even a spot on Men’s Health magazine’s list of the 100 Hottest Women of All Time in 2012.

Reflecting on her career, Tiegs has shared her thoughts on how the modeling industry has transformed over the years. She noted that models during her time lacked the same level of visibility that today’s models enjoy, thanks to the influence of social media and entertainment programs like Entertainment Tonight. “It was more in the moment, and I liked that,” she mentioned in an interview with Artful Living.

In the 1980s, Tiegs ventured into acting, landing roles in series such as Moonlighting and Just Shoot Me, as well as films like The Brown Bunny and Sharknado 4 in the 2000s and 2010s.

Despite her acting endeavors, she ultimately decided to prioritize other areas of her life, including her personal relationships and motherhood. Tiegs has been married several times and is a mother to three children, including twin sons born through surrogacy in 2001.

Additionally, Tiegs has been an advocate for environmental issues, working to raise awareness about global warming and supporting conservation efforts. She has traveled to locations like the Canadian Arctic and Copper Canyon in Mexico to gain insight into environmental challenges.

However, in 2016, Tiegs stirred controversy when she criticized Sports Illustrated for featuring plus-size model Ashley Graham on its cover, arguing that it promoted unhealthy body standards.

I have some reservations about the focus on full-figured women, as it seems to glamorize a body type that Dr. Oz suggests should have a waist smaller than 35 inches. I stand by that statement, as I don’t believe it promotes long-term health. While I think her face is stunning, I’m concerned about the overall health implications, Tiegs shared with E! News.

In 2017, Tiegs expressed frustration with the media for exaggerating her remarks, clarifying that her intention was simply to advocate for the health of individuals who might be too thin or those who are on the opposite end of the spectrum. “It’s really about discovering your own healthy journey. That’s all there is to it. I don’t know her personally, so I can’t say whether she’s healthy or not; that’s her decision to make,” Tiegs explained.

At 77, Tiegs prioritizes her well-being through yoga, balanced nutrition, and surrounding herself with positive people. She emphasizes that leading an active lifestyle and finding joy in pursuits like reading and spending time with encouraging friends is essential.

Cheryl Tiegs remains a symbol of enduring beauty and a passionate advocate, seamlessly merging her legacy as a supermodel with a strong dedication to environmental issues and healthy living.
