Los Angeles news anchor Chauncy Glover’s cause of death has been confirmed, following his passing in November.

The Emmy Award-winning journalist’s family revealed the heartbreaking news of his death on November 5 at the age of 39.

They said in a statement to KCAL News, where Glover worked, that they were “devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy.”

“He was more than a son and brother,” they continued. “He was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community.

“While we grieve this profound loss, we are comforted by the outpouring of love and memories shared by those who knew Chauncy as the passionate, gifted soul he was.

“We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn and honor his incredible legacy. He was taken from us far too soon, but his impact will be felt forever.”

The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner confirmed Glover’s cause of death, revealing in a news release on Wednesday that it was down to acute intoxication by the combined effects of chloroethane and methamphetamine, People reports.

Glover’s cause of death is listed as accidental.

The anchor had been found unresponsive in his home on November 5, with fire department personnel pronouncing him dead at 12.40AM.

A post-mortem examination was completed by the deputy medical examiner on November 6, and the cause and manner of death were certified on February 19.

Glover had dreamed of being a news anchor from an early age, with his station bio revealing that his dad even built him a mini anchor desk when he was five so that he could host pretend newscasts, which “he would perform for his family every Sunday after church.”

During his career, he became the first Black male main anchor for Houston’s KTRK, where he was on the air for eight years, before moving to Los Angeles for work.

His bio added: “But the defining moments in his life didn’t happen on television screens; they unfolded on the streets and in the hearts of the people he touched.”

The bio mentioned The Chauncy Glover Project, a mentoring organization he founded to help young boys of color from the inner city.

Glover’s career saw him work in Florida, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas, before moving to Los Angeles.

Our thoughts remain with his loved ones at this heartbreaking time.
